For Jubilee, flowers have always been connected to joy.

Inspired by the simple happiness of giving and receiving flowers, she brings that same feeling to her watercolor paintings. Her loose, expressive approach embraces spontaneity, allowing unexpected blooms, textures, and colors to become part of what makes each piece unique.

In this interview, she shares her love of florals, the special place red poppies hold in her work, and why watercolor continues to surprise her with every painting.

Rooted in Nature

What first inspired you to paint flowers in watercolor?

The smile on someone's face when they are gifted flowers. That simple moment of joy inspired me to capture the same feeling with a paintbrush.

Why do florals continue to inspire your work after all this time?

Florals have become my happy place. Every time I paint them, it's always something new. Be it a color, or a petal, or even my mood. Every bloom is truly one of a kind.

Are there certain flowers you always find yourself returning to?

Yes, red poppies are my absolute favorite. Whenever I paint them, I fall in love with watercolors all over again.

Could you share your favorite piece of work at this stage and introduce it briefly?

These red poppies I just finished painting recently. I poured my heart into this piece. It's a loose watercolor with gold highlights. When painting in loose watercolor, there is no perfect plan; the unexpected blooms, textures, and color combinations creates surprises that make every painting unique and beautiful.

How has your relationship with nature influenced your artistic journey?

My early morning walks and hikes have deeply influenced my artistic journey. Nature's beauty, peaceful moments and looking at all the different colored flowers in their natural environment inspires me to share my art through painting.

How do you capture the softness and movement of flowers in watercolor?

Letting the watercolor flow freely, it creates beautiful surprises. Adding gentle brush strokes and light layers to enhance its beauty.

What role does water play in shaping your paintings?

As I always say, water is like a form of magic which can create beautiful art. Sometimes just adding little or more water creates happy accidents which lets the water flow, blend and create unexpected beauties.

What do you look for in a watercolor brush?

A brush that holds water well, has a beautiful flow that helps me create soft loose washes and sharp fine details.

Don't be afraid to paint. Practice every day, even if it's just for a few minutes. Big or small, every painting helps you grow. Never stop learning, and don't worry if a painting turns out good or bad. And if you can, invest in a good quality art supplies. The right paints, paper, and brushes truly make a difference and can be a real game changer.
